Three-Day Certification Programme for MAPP™ Counsellors

3 Day workshop - 17-19 July; 21-23 August 2006

Background

MAPP™ (Motivational Appraisal of Personal Potential) is a vocational assessment instrument used in career guidance and coaching. It was first developed by industrial psychologists in 1955 interested in matching people to the right job. Much of its development was based on the Kuder Preference Record, a standard reference in psychology for vocational assessment.

Dramatic results were immediately evident in selection, training, performance and safety. It was then further refined to eliminate gender bias, and also to specifically look at job matching in working adults, as well as students about to embark on their first career.

While psychologists conclude that it is not possible to verify validity of any vocational or behavioural instrument, they do agree that measuring the reliability of the results is achievable. MAPP has been researched for its reliability scores, and compared favourably to the Strong Inventory - a highly reliable tool used by psychologists. Both Kuder and Strong have assessment studies on vocational preferences made over 30 years apart. MAPP™ itself can refer to norms dating back to 1955.

Introduction

The three-Day MAPP™ Certification programme is a detailed, practical approach to developing a comprehensive skill in the use of MAPP™, for career counselling and development, job recruitment and internal selection, and coaching.

In fact, MAPP™ gives more than career counselling. Its Personal Analysis section provides rich, detailed information of each person’s leadership and other relationship motivations, learning blockages, individual stress factors, and a variety of responses to life’s most critical experiences. It also matches one’s motivations / demotivations to more than 950 jobs in O*Net to reveal accurately a person’s top ten career areas.

Each participant will become thoroughly familiar with the impact of the 9 key worker traits on candidates’ core preferences in choice of jobs, attitudes, relationships, communication styles, data, etc. You will further understand how MAPP™ 's Learning Styles enhances the predictability of success in work and relationships with people.

TWP’s certified MAPP™ counsellors receive a useful, lifelong skill, to provide people with a highly accurate and useful assessment of their deepest motivations and demotivations in regard to work, relationships and learning preferences.

A true vocational tool, a MAPP™ assessment needs only be applied once and serves as a useful guide in decisions of careers and relationships.
